About Eric

Born and raised in coastal Maine, Eric Oransky developed an affinity for woodworking as a child while working in his father's shop. At fifteen he began working under the direction of Jules Dostie, a highly respected home builder in southern Maine. Over the years Eric worked on numerous renovation and new homes, mastering layout, framing and finish carpentry skills.

Eric's love of design and creation developed further while studying at Alfred University's School of Art and Design, where he began making custom furniture. Looking to further his education in fine woodworking and furniture Eric moved to Fort Bragg, California to study at the "Masterpiece School" under James Bowie, a renowned cabinetmaker from Scotland. (www.masterpieceschool.com) During his eighteen months of study, Eric became an expert in fine joinery and traditional methods of furniture construction. In addition to these skills, Eric also developed a historical knowledge of furniture and an appreciation for the subtleties of design. After completing his apprenticeship at the Master Piece School, Eric moved to Santa Cruz, California where he worked closely with Jefferson Schallenberger, a former student of James Bowie, A graduate of the "College of the Redwoods, School of Fine Furnature" and successful furniture maker. (www.jeffersonfurniture.com) There he explored more contemporary furniture design and construction techniques.

In 2007, Eric returned home to Southern Maine where he set up his own shop to design and build one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture and custom cabinetry, as well as homes and barns. His skills in traditional and contemporary styles coupled with his attention to detail ensure that every piece he creates is not only functional, but also a true work of art.
